extravagant tiny costumes
costing more than the
near-by families have for a year.

They wear glittered masks
rolling their hips so bare
while a child cries with hunger
no one seems to care

Carnival–one big orgy
before Lent begins
forty days of repentance
to erase a lifetime of sin
