Repent means “turn” and “return.” Two requisites of repentance is turn away from evil and the other is to turn to God. So often, we think that saying “I’m sorry” is all we have to do but if we keep repeating the offense, our actions do not represent our words. God knows our hearts and if we are not truly repentant, He will not accept our declaration, “I’m sorry.” When we have a personal relationship with God, we must ask Him to help us overcome this desire to do what we have promised not to do anymore. Serenity is one of the gifts that comes with true repentance.
