Color my square green
with tiny yellow and purple flowers.
Tiny stitches join your square and
then another until the quilt fashioned
with love, covers the Earth creating
a harmonious mosaic for colors and patterns.

As I was looking for a photo to illustrate this poem, I found the story of the Aids Memorial Quilt. I had forgotten about it though I followed its making, which started around 1985, for a number of years. I was amazed to see that it was still being created and exhibited. It is a wonderful example of how a small idea can join thousands of people together for a common cause. Sometimes we think that as one, small person, we can have so little impact but reading this story will once again show how one person started something with a loving heart and it has been in force for 25 years.
