Insomnia Again

Inside my head
is a fun-house of mirrors
thoughts rick-o-shay from
one exaggerated image to another
leaving me lost in
a swell of distraught ponderings
for relief
from one more night
of insomnia.

I find that on those nights when I lay in bed and my body stubbornly refuses to turn off that my thoughts become more sinister. They become thoughts of what I’d done wrong, expressions of negative conditions in my life, worries that I’m going to die an old lonely man. It’s like the mind derives strength from the darkness; strength and a more intense malevolence towards your desire for peace and contentedness.
