Empathy

//

Understanding how another
is feeling opens the door.
Let their sorrow and joy
enter your heart as you
share their experience
offering your love
your understanding of
what they are experiencing.

E nter the joy and sorrow of another
M ove away from self-centeredness
P ut yourself in their shoes
A ttune to what they are experiencing
T ake the time to care
H elp with a loving heart
Y ou caring can make a difference

  1. I am working with two young girls in the 4th grade at the school where i work to implement a Bullying policy. These two girls asked me to help them create a vision that they are calling the “VOICE”. they want to teach their classmates that the solution is not going to come from punishing the bullies, but from showing support to the victim. They want to teach the students that by allowing the bullies to torment them they are in a sense giving their permission.
    I am going to use this poem in the assembly. I cannot believe how perfect it is for the message they girls are trying to convey.
    So glad I read this poem today.
