Make Her Happy

prince and princess2

Today your job is to
make her happy.
You satisfy her every
desire, and she dreams
of her prince charming.

New day. Today your job
is to make her happy. You
delight her with pretty
words and a picnic by a
forest glade. Stars shine
in the sky and in her eyes
as she drifts to sleep.

New day. Same story.
At the end of the day,
she is happy; you’ve
done your job well. But
something is missing. Your
pleasure in pleasing her
is no longer enough.

How is it that the
Eternal Bestower
finds pleasure
forever in giving,
but we always reach
a point when we say,
“Hey! What about me?”

    what about me

is a question with many contexts

this song was popular when I was in high school. it’s funny that I thought it was whiney then.
