Pity Pot Blues

Sitting on the pity pot
singing about “poor me”
I weep and wail
happy I’m as miserable
as I can be

Leave me alone
when I’m through
I’ll get up
when I’m tired of feeling blue

  1. JanBeek says:

    Good morning, Brother Sunshine!
    Good morning, Sister Song!
    I beg your humble pardon
    If you’ve waited very long.
    I thought I heard you rapping;
    To shut you out were sin.
    My heart is standing open –
    Won’t you walk right in?

    (My mom had this poem inside her kitchen cabinet door – cut from a newspaper in 1936. It’s titled “Friends of Mine.” Those friends sure can turn a pity party around in no time at all!)
