Steps of Life #1

I dedicate these series of poems to the wisdom of the 12 Step programs.

Step #1 I am Powerless

My computer has a glitch,
I try this remedy,
then that one,
again and again I try
to no avail.
Help button remains unclicked.

I circle the city,
destination unfound,
hot car, need a bathroom,
temper is rising,
pride remains in tack.
I stubbornly refuse to
stop and ask for help.
I remain lost.

Sails are set,
wind is blowing,
I’m off!
Don’t know my destination,
never sailed a boat,
but I am full steam ahead!
Soon my epitat reads,
Lost at sea!

Where is the line between
arrogance and self confidence,
between willingness to try
and a need to see
when to ask for help?

Powerlessness does not mean
helplessness.
It means needing a Power
greater than my own.

  1. Powerlessness does not mean
    helplessness.
    This is very powerful.
I had to come here, as I just read step 2 and I wanted to know which one was step 1.
    Thank you Pat!

  2. dear and divine….. when we charge our computers the main electric current is some places it is 220 volts….0r 110 volts but our computer normally need 12 volts only so we put a transformer in between and in transformer one puts a resistance…..higher is the resistance ….less is the voltage of current…..similarly God is main source….. ego is resistance…… more is the ego …..less is the oneness with God…..when ego is zero ….the oneness is total…..

    Powerlessness does not mean
    helplessness.
    It means needing a Power
    greater than my own.

so powerlessness is ego zero….. oneness with God….
    love all,,,
