Glories of Old Age

Although you are 30 years old
I do not envy your youth
it is but a fleeting stage
to begin to prepare
for the glories of old age.

The cabin, battered and decayed
lets in cold air through
the cracks that Mother Nature
has made, yet time has also
filled the cottage with light
that shines out the chinks
into the night.

My body grows weary
my hair silver
my cheeks have lost their bloom
these knees creak
as I hobble across the room
but my heart is filled with peace
as I lay me down to sleep
for soon I’ll journey home
may angels guide my feet.
