No Emergency

I know my way
to the Promised Land
I preach it to the one
who needs it most—me!

Calm—life is not an emergency.
I take a deep breath
soothing my rushing, frenzied soul
into a river of whispered grace.

Life is not an emergency
it is so unurgent that
it begs to be believed slowly
with great attention to detail
yes, with gratitude.

Slowly, calmly
faith provides
all that is needed.
Slow, steady reverence
for each precious moment
gives us a life well lived
and the gratitude needed
to enjoy it.
