On Being Strong

The secret is to be strong
beyond your fears
not waiting for the fears
to go away
for they don’t, you know.
Like freckles they splotch
our lives
making us reach
deep inside to bring forth
courage with blossoms
on the tree of faith
growing in the heart
that loves the Lord.
