Our Choices

Though we cannot chose
how we die
we have choices
about how we live.
But what if we
could choose how and when
we would die
what would your choice be?

Would you go in fanfare
or slip away in solitude?
Would you hire professional
mourners to wail
and beat the drum?
Do you have family and friends
who would share the event?
What do you have to do
to be ready to go?

We celebrate
birthdays
yet for our death day
somehow this seem wrong
to do. Let’s live our lives
so well that on our final day
we rejoice in a life well lived
free of regret and woe.
