Total Silence

Turn off the sound
garbage truck grinding
sirens wailing
bombs bursting
people screaming

Canaries sing trilling songs
babies laughing, symphonies playing
our lover whispers, “I love you,”
yet we hear nothing
but our own silent thoughts.

S ound weaves life into our day
I nvoking feeling both bad and good
L isten carefully to life’s symphony of sound
E ach sound a gift
N otice what role sound plays in your life
C an you hear the angel sing?
E njoy the sounds of nature—a daily gift we often ignore
