Nothing Is Forever

Nothing is forever
that is of this world
not ancient trees
or even far-away stars
all have a time to come
then to go.

Yet mankind resists this truth
spends a lifetime fearing death
hanging on to hopes of a glorious
afterlife, often failing to
enjoy the one he has now.

Some say, “what is death but sleep”
perhaps life is sleep, too
the dreams of the Creator
swirling in and out of a mind
too vast to perceive.
