Several people have asked me about where I live and what I do. I am US volunteer living for the past 10 years in central Brazil on an ecological project called Santa Branca. There is an ecovillage and ecotourism area as well as other special projects like mine which was with emotionally disturbed children and children with handicaps. Santa Branca is a privately owned restoration project and game preserve. We have beautiful jungles (called “florestas”) here that are all restored as the land was originally cut and made into coffee plantations and pasture for cattle. I live on the private side of the project and next to a major section of the floresta. Soon I will be moving to a small house I am building inside of the jungle and will have the privilege of living among these wonderful animals. I often walk the floresta so they know me. I have also planted more than 25 kinds of fruit around where I currently live so that brings many animals and birds.
Here is a site that tells about the onças we have here. You can also hear the sound they make. This year I have seen one of the female black onças with four kits, an unusual number. I have not seen the spotted ones although we do have them here.

I live about an hour from Goiania and three and a half hours from Brasalia located in the central part of Brazil in the state of Goias.
