Divided Integrity

Integrity can not be divided;
you either practice the values
in which you believe, or you
do not. Just as you can not be
a little pregnant, integrity,
by definition, does not leave
room for “just this once,” or
“little white lies.”

Ironically, we often lose our
integrity with the excuses we
tell ourselves. It is not easy
to be a person with integrity
and sometimes the lines are
not so clear. But if we go
inward for clarity, it quickly
becomes apparent the action
we must or must not take.


For my readers who speak Portuguese, my friend, Anacelia, translated this poem for me today. I am thrilled to have it in both languages.

Integridade dividida.

Integridade não é divisível;
voce pode por em prática os valores
em que voce acredita, ou não.
Da mesma maneira como voce
não pode estar um pouco grávida,
integridade por definição,
não deixa espaço para ” só mais esta vez”,
ou para “pequenas mentiras brancas”.

Ironicamente, com frequência perdemos
nossa integridade com desculpas que damos
a nós mesmos. Não é fácil ser uma pessoa integra,
e as vezes as linhas não estão tão claras.
Mas se vamos em direção ao interior buscando
claridade, rapidamente se torna aparente a ação
que devemos ou não devemos ter.

      Yes, the colors are spectacular. We have brilliant green lizards here as well a huge one that is silver and black. Our Mother paints the world so beautifully. hugs, pat
