Mermaid

Sailors’ tale of a lovely maid,
who swims the oceans and
calls to lonely hearts months
from home. She lures, laughs, plays,
promises and dives beneath the foam.
He longs to go to her, lie in beds of
seaweed, remember what it is to be a
man in the arms of his love.

But, alas, she is but an illusion, born
of a lonely heart, no wish will make
her true. What else in our lives
is an illusion, created by a reality
of smoke and dreams? And when I awaken
what will I find? More layers of life in
forms unknown? A mirror of infinite mirrors,
leaving me wondering forever more? Or finally,
the answers to all our questions revealed
as we move toward the Light leaving the world
of illusion forever behind.
