The Humble Heart

It is the humble heart
that asks for forgiveness.
Self-rightousness seals our lips.
It’s not my fault!
is our mantra.
Look how he did me wrong.

Look carefully at your part.
What could you have done differently?
Did you punish with angry words
or worse, cold silence?
Withdraw your love,
close your heart to his remorse?

It is the humble heart
that knows how to forgive,
or better yet, never judge.
We each struggle to learn;
fail, then try again.
Do not add to the burdens
of another with your hard heart.

Reach out your hand,
offer a smile,
give dignity back
with love and compassion
for all.

I am learning about offering a smile and the power of this. I read Mother Teresa’s thoughts on the power of a smile and was very moved by this. Love and smiles go together and heal all. hugs, pat
